Cartoons

I got up this morning about six. I normally listen to the news on the clock radio. However this morning, I wanted to watch some cartoons. I couldn’t find any. That’s not true. I could find some cartoons, but they suck. I wanted cartoons from back in the day.

I remember getting up in the mornings and watching the Little Rascals and the Three Stooges before school everyday. Those shows were old as hell but they are great to this day. The same is true about the cartoons from those days. TBS used to air the good cartoons, Tom and Jerry, or Bugs Bunny. The Merrie Melodies were some of my favorites.

Dora the Explorer just don’t cut it. Now a days it’s animation, computers, and graphic arts. I like the good old fashioned cartoon, just a little quick and dirty comedy to start my day. Of course, the death of many cartoons is at the hands of the politically correct crowd. I’ll never get to see some of the greatest cartoons because they are deemed too offensive. It’s a good thing that I didn’t hold my breath waiting for Disney to release “Song of the South” on DVD. I’ll never see ole Briar Rabbit and the tar baby. I guess the days of watching Speedy Gonzales grab that cheese are gone forever.

Zip-i-dee-do-da. Just Damn!

    Warner Brothers cartoons rule.

The WWII-vintage stuff is priceless, especially the anti-Nazi toons that feature caricatures of Hitler, et al. And ya wanna talk politically incorrect? One of the funniest cartoons of all time - and the most politically incorrect - is So White and de Sebben Dwarfs, directed by the late, great Bob Clampett.

Bob Clampett and Tex Avery redefined the cartoon medium. If you want to see the closest thing to those geniuses today, go read Jon Kricfalusi’s blog: all kinds of stuff.

I ended up having to download a lot of looney tunes for my boy because there is nothing on tv anymore. They are timeless and he loves everything I’ve thrown at him with Yosimite Sam being his favorite. Anything that’s shown now to kids has to be gun free which means not very many looney tunes of old.

It’s so true. They don’t make cartoons like they used to. I grew up outside of New York so we got the Manhattan stations even pre-cable. I used to love the obscure ones. Merrie Toons, Terry Toons. The follow the bouncing ball song ones. Krazy Kat and the brick throwing mouse. Felix the Cat. Crusader Rabbit. Kids miss so much these days….

I’m with Elisson … there ain’t nothing funnier than a Tex Avery toon, with that dumbass wolf and his eyes poppin’ out of his head … now that was funny!
Of course, but this is just me, nothing beats Tom and Jerry.
